EA sent me an email this morning to announce that the Army of Two: Devil’s Cartel demo is now available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and with that announcement they dropped this brand new video.
The video features two American rappers who go by the names Big Boi (real name Antwan) and B.O.B (Bobby Ray)… seriously I couldn’t make up better names to mock them with so this is really nice of them.
The video shows how these two generic American rappers get notified that two of their women have been kidnapped and they decide to take matters into their own hands by rescuing them while signing the official song for Army of Two.
I’m actually a fan of a lot of rap music but this really just doesn’t do it for me and these two are not the kick-ass warriors that I want to pretend to be when playing Army of Two. EA obviously didn’t think so either as the video switches from live action to in game footage where the characters swap from overweight and skinny black guys to muscular white guys in one swift movement.
It makes me cringe… and they were doing so well in not screwing up the marketing on this one… until now.
I’m also sure our local feminists are going to love the weak females in the video who have no other use than being eye candy.

Yet another game ruined by EA

Before we go all doom and gloom, remember Army of 2 has ever been game to take seriously. Its the kind of game you play in your boxers on a Saturday during that weird 2 hour gap when its appropriate to start drinking but the NZ and AUS super rugby games have ended and the SA games haven’t started. I hardly think that a bad video made by an aging 50 year old who doesn’t really understand his target market is the final nail in this games coffin.

Really? You lost interest because of a music video? Jeeez somebody should grow a pair …. So the music video is crap , who cares? Will it affect gameplay … NO … will it affect anything regarding the game exept the titel song …. NO … so why exactly did you loose interest again? Oh yeah because of a stupid 3rd party music video ….

If the game is supposed to be about some brothers out for revenge, and the developers can’t even this right, you have hope?

This game is about to be abut fun. I cant remember what I did in the last two games, but I do remember I had a blast playing split screen co-op.

Not doubting its intent, just its obvious and silly fail.

I thought the demo was pretty good. It has the potential to be a good co-op game – and it plays much better than the first two titles. Rap in general puts me off anything and I’m ignoring this sh#t video.

Not surprised… Army of Two has always been the douchebag pinnacle of gaming. 🙂

Big Boi is actually a well know rapper (Outkast). Couldn’t care less though.

Oh geez, feminazi’s stand down. Last I checked, female artists employ the exact same tactic. What, no sob story for the guys whose lives are ruined because they’re eye candy to a woman’s performance?

I always knew it.. Gav is a little gangsta!! 😛 I used to avoid rap like the plague, until I was introduced to the golden age of rap. I’m too old for the current stuff, but even this old codger taps his foot to some Snoop Dogg and Ice T.

Aye guys… I think its a bit subjective at best and subtly racist at worst to object to the rap music on the basis that its rappers/black guys. What you are alluding to, is that if this ad was done by White Rockers it would have been more palatable somehow? On top of all that – why must games take themselves seriously? Isn’t that (kind of) the antithesis of gaming? I Love the fact that EA even did this game, games like Army of Two and Bulletstorm – although they will never be hits – fill an important niche in gaming. Games for people that just want to blow shit up and shoot bad guys in the face and not in a faux-realistic Medal of Duty kind of way
