Apple Watch release date, price revealed

MacBooks and health aside, Apple finally got to the meat of their presentation tonight. The Apple Watch has been an incredibly anticipated piece of tech ever since Apple revealed it last year. And now, we know just how much you’re going to have to pay for the little iPhone on your wrist, and it won’t be cheap.

Apple previously stated that the Apple Watch would start at a rather high $349. That hasn’t changed, and the aluminum and glass Sport model, with a plastic band, comes in at just that. The smaller screen rings in at $349, while the larger model will set you back a full $50 more. If you though that was expensive though, you haven’t seen a thing yet.

The more watch-like of the three models, the Apple Watch, features a sapphire display and stainless steel finish. It’s easily the most attractive between itself and the Sport, and looks like the one you’d pair up with a suit. Sadly, it’s going to cost just as much as a well tailored one. The Apple Watch will range from $549 all the way up to $1099, depending on the strap you chose to pair with it. That ranges from the Sport’s plastic one, all the way up to premium leather and steel.

It doesn’t end there either. The third model, the Apple Watch Edition, features all of the above, except it’s housed in a crazy 18 karat gold casing. It’s a premium item, and it comes with a price to match. If you’ve got deep, deep pockets, you can pick up this limited edition watch for no less than $10 000. Not a typo, I promise.

Right now, I’m struggling to see why there’s such a hefty price tag on a piece of tech that is essentially just an extension of an iPhone. In fact, there’s hardly anything this Watch does that an iPhone doesn’t, never mind its dependency on the device to work in the first place. Either way, you should see them in stores overseas on April 24, and later locally.

So my issues with this is I will most likely have to charge this daily. That will be a pain unless it can charge wireless while I work with it.
Secondly yeah the cost layout for it, they can keep it, premium or budget option, I really don’t care because it terms of functionality, I do believe this is the first and there is more that they could do potentially do with the watch than just the basic extension of the phone.
Thirdly, I don’t really want a tie down. It would be cool to have it capable of linking to more than just an apple device but I guess the Manufacturers do want you to buy their products so Apple to Apple, Samsung to Samsung.
And for this price, I will rather buy a good decent branded watch that is a watch rather then a pretend watch come-all.
Let all the rich folks and fools rush to have and buy. I will save till its becomes useful and if I never buy then it just wasn’t useful

Yeah, it was posted at 9 last night, when the editor wasn’t around. Alessandro has a horrible habit of never, ever proofing his work. He’s busy being whipped.

Smaller screen than a phone, smaller battery than a phone, less materials than a phone, less features than a phone.

    Costs more than a phone…
