Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Multiplayer explained – as best we know

AssassinsCreed

One of the biggest shocks to come out of the Ubisoft offices in recent months was the news that the next Assassin’s Creed will feature an indepth multiplayer component.

Now Assassin’s Creed has been one of my favourite single player titles and when I first heard that they were going to be adding multiplayer to the mix I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore it. As long as they didn’t ruin my single player experience I could forgive them.

However while I was at E3 I had the pleasure of watching some intense multiplayer action and I have to admit I am more than a little intrigued.

The concept from what I was able to pick up was that there would be 8 (or maybe 12) of you all playing as Assassin’s in a sprawling Roman village. You each get to choose what you look like and then you enter the world filled with civilians and guards and all the rest of the paraphernalia that you have come to expect from Assassin’s Creed.

Then after a few seconds your target appears in the top corner, the target is the other Assassin that you have been hired to take down and is one of the other players in the game. At this same time your ugly mug is appearing on someone else’s screen and while you are the hunter you are also being hunted.

You then begin to hunt down your chosen target and appear to get hints as you go such as “Lorenzo last seen in the central market”… The thing is you can just go running into the central market and take him out as not only will he be made aware of you coming in but you will also become a shining beacon for your hunter to pounce.

Unfortunately I never got any hands on time myself with the title but if the howls of complaints from downed Assassin’s and smack talk of victorious hunters was anything to go by then this new addition to the Assassin’s Creed universe is going to be very well received indeed.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is going to be released towards the end of November and once again looks to be a must have for the legions of Assassin’s out there.

In other news the associate producer for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Jean-Francois Boivin, has been speaking to Videogames Daily and has admitted while the idea of a co-op mechanic being added to the game is an appealing thought they haven’t come up with a way to ensure the story and logic flows correctly with it.

“You have to come back to the universe of Assassin’s Creed and what Assassin’s Creed is, because Assassin’s Creed is the story of Desmond Miles and a machine called the Animus in which he relives his ancestors’ genetic memories,”

So to justify something like co-op, you would have to have in our universe with Desmond, the assassin and the Templars… you’d have to find subjects that had ancestors in the same time period, as for example in this case Ezio, in the same area and have a separate Animus.”

So while I do love my co-op I am glad to hear they are not just going to shoe horn in any old idea to try ship an extra few copies and are rather doing their best to stick to the original plotlines and story.
