I adored ACC: China for all it’s sneaking, 2.5D ninja fun. I wrote a bunch of words and a number to explain this. After publishing the review, I went to see what other people thought and got a bit of a shock. Of course I need to tell everyone why they’re wrong.
So here’s a video where I explain why Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China is rad.
I think Ubisoft will suffer for calling this an Assassin’s Creed game. If it were just vaguely set in the same universe with some shared lore but different name, people wouldn’t have those same expectations. Unfortunately, as soon as you say that a game is Assassin’s Creed, they want 3D sandbox adventures filled with fluffy side activities and can’t see past that towards the fun that a 2.5D platformer can offer. Sure, there are issues with the game, but for the most part it’s just a lot of fun and definitely offers excellent value for money.
This is a new video format for me, and I sort of like it. But obviously, your feedback is important. Tell us what you liked or hated about the video and if this is the kind of thing you’d like to see more of. I might just keep doing it anyway, but at least I’ll know why you wish I would stop.
