If you had to pit the two against each other, choosing the better Batman game between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City would be like choosing which nipple to have cut off. They’re both equally good games in my opinion, magnificent examples of how to do right by your source material and creating something iconic and enduring.
Some people argue that Arkham Asylum’s tighter and danker corridors created a better focus than Arkham City’s approach to throwing everything possible at the player in a bigger sandbox. Others say that Arkham City’s better boss fights and daring third act made for a more exciting game. But really, you can’t exactly lose when you’ve got both games in your hands.
Which is the whole point of Batman: Return to Arkham. The HD remaster of the first two games ran into some trouble early on this year, skipping its original projected July release date due to a few performance issues. Back then, it seemed like frame-rate issues were hampering progress on Return to Arkham, forcing Warner Bros. Interactive to recall the project lest they wound up with another Arkham Knight debacle.
But it’s looking great! The trailer above shows off the differences between the PS3 and PS4 versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, and the differences are easy to see for the October 18 release. That Arkham Knight engine is running at full horsepower, with better lighting and grimier surfaces on show. In case your boss is all like “hey no Batman videos on company times” and you’re like “Jeez Gerald you used to be cool what happened man”, here’s a gallery I put together from the trailer for you.
Because I’m nice like that.

If Batman’s jaw got any squarer, he poke someone’s eye out with the edges.
