They have an army. But we have a Space Hulk! There’s a certain fascination that I have with the universe of Warhammer 40 000. It’s like the bastard child of an orgy between Starship Troopers, Star Wars, Braveheart, a messiah complex and a tub of that muscle powder stuff from your local beefcake dealer. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a proper Warhammer 40 000 action game however. And right now, Space Hulk: Deathwing looks like another prime example of the first rule of the Codex Astartes: Cover is for a bunch of p***y-f***s.
Here’s a bunch of new screenshots for the game, showing off some of the ol’ glorious ultra-violence that happens when you decide to introduce a Genestealer to the business end of the Flail of the Unforgiven:
Some of you might be scratching your heads right now, wondering just what the hell a Space Hulk: Deathwing even is. Well buddy, they’re pretty much the baddest of the baddest, the cream of the crop out of the entire Space Marine army of genetically modified super-soldiers who run around in Hulkbuster armour. According to the wiki:
The Deathwing is the elite 1st Company of the Dark Angels Space Marine Chapter and is also found amongst those Space Marine Chapters who are Successors of the original I Legion and are collectively known as the Unforgiven.
The Deathwing ain’t nothin’ to mess with, yo. The actual game above will feature a solo campaign, co-operative team-play and squad tactics meshed together. It’s one of the games that I’ll be checking out next week, so I’m a bit excited to see more of it. One aspect of the game that is being touted, which seems to be hot new trend in FPS titles, is the dynamic AI that adjusts its difficulty scale to the amount of ass that you’re kicking, to ensure a proper challenge. By my estimate, that means that I’ll be swatting away My Little GeneStealers thanks to my overwhelming lack of basic hand and eye co-ordination.
Space Hulk Deathwing is out next year. FOR THE EMPEROR!

a rotting corpse that radiates so much power that he powers the warp drives of the collective space marine armies.

I never got into Warhammer, neither the 40k nor the fantasy version.
But this? This looks interesting. Colour me intrigued…..

Remember, Starcraft was Originally a 40K game, but the licensing fell through, so Blizzard renamed the factions….

As far as I know, Warcraft was actually a Warhammer game where the deal fell through. They were about halfway when it happened so Blizzard decided screw it we’re going to use what we already created and just go from there.
Starcraft was their own idea but definitely based a lot on 40K

This is really going to be epic. Cannot wait.
Space Marine was alright, but it just didn’t feel serious, or dark enough.

space marine was good fun, getting to stomp around with a power axe was rad.
but it really didnt show off how overpowered an individual space marine really is, nevermind a captain.
would also love a proper dark story for a space marine game.
the screenshots for this game give me hope though.

I agree. The only time when I truly felt like a great Space Marine was when you’re around the troops and they’re like “Look, it’s a space marine!”
Loved that.

The sequel will let you play as either the Tyranids or Space Marines. AvP can go *&^% itself.
