Beyond Good & Evil 2 Put “on hold”

1 min read

One of the finest games released in 2003, Beyond Good and Evil was an underappreciated gem. Praised by critics for its cinematic atmosphere and seamless combination of genres it was largely ignored by the game-purchasing public. Being one of my very favourite games of all time, I was naturally quite excited when a trailer for a sequel made an appearance at least year’s Ubidays, Ubisoft’s annual press conference.

Today though, my heart’s been broken. Colin Cardo of Gamercyde confirmed with Ubisoft at GamesCom that the sequel has been put on hold. As I type this, with tears rolling down my cheeks and splattering all over my keyboard, I can’t help but feel slightly betrayed. why on earth did you even announce the game, Ubisoft? It’s like giving a kid an N64 for Christmas, only the box is filled with rocks and poisonous snakes.

If you’ll excuse me I’m going to curl up into the foetal position and cry myself to sleep. Any of you who played (and loved) the original are welcome to join me, but please…bring your own tissues.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
