Black Ops 3D is actually better on the Xbox 360 compared to the PS3… didn’t see that coming

3DBlackOps

We stopped posting up comparison articles between the 360 and PS3 once they pretty much reached parity. In general cross platform titles look fantastic on both platforms and the differences are really not worth making any fuss about.

However Sony have been evangelising their 3D technology for quite some time now, so much so that a large portion of the gaming market wrongly believes that only the PS3 can play 3D titles.

So when Digital Foundry compared the 3D performance of the Xbox 360 and PS3 against each other in Black Ops I was very surprised to see that not only did the 360 out perform the PS3 but it outperformed it by quite a large margin.

In their own words

“The 3D version of Black Ops on PS3 really isn’t very satisfying at all, unfortunately.”

For those that were interested the 360 outperforms the PS3 in 2D mode as well but like I said you aren’t going to really notice these differences anymore and it is no longer a reason not to get the PS3 version if that’s what your friends have.

PS3 version sounds like a crappy port. What’s new?
    Treyarch can go suck it.

Yeah, this article is basically “old news”. Everyone by now knows multiplatform games have issues. It’s more like the PS3 highlights bad programming from the developers more than anything else.

@Aussious lol crytek can’t optimise to lower spec to safe their lives.
they will definitely not use the ps3 spu’s correctly they can barely optimize Crysis for Quad core processors let alone the ps3

Crysis is gonna have better draw distance on ps3 but terrible frame rate, better lighting and textures on Xbox 360, typical clueless multi-platform dev

Yawn of duty… LOL no, the SP is actually very well done so far (Vietnam levels ftw!)

I can see where the 3d effect would be rad.

Activision and MS are tight buddies, their stuff will always be better on teh box.

Yeah you got me… a PS3 fan site prefers the 3D on PS3 over the 3D on Xbox 360… that’s far more compelling than the technical analysis that I linked to.

well done.. you can go straight to the back of the class… mainly for getting my surname wrong but also for just posting a really really bad link to try back up your point.

At the Treyarch review event I went to, Treyarch’s own 3D director couldn’t get the 3D working properly on the PS3’s, which is why we played 3D sections on 360. He (Robert Sanchez) also said that 3D is slightly better on the 360.

I met Adam Rosas – mentioned in that article – and he has /nothing/ to do with 3D development. He’s an animator (and an awesome dude).

also, I’d trust digital foundry over the words of an obscure German PS3-centric site pretty much any day.

Coming from the 360 Fanboy site like Lazygamer ( Miklos excluded i think he would be the only one on this site that would make a decent journalist. Ive never seen him bash any console just to get hits and his articles are always interesting or insifghtful ) where entire articles are devoted to shitting on PS3 game intros, fake loading time videos, educates us on why Uncharted doesnt look all that good, dismisses 3D and then jump as soon as they hear its decent on 360, craps on Move by calling it a Wii too and hails the coming of Kinect, posts articles constantly trying to highlight to us how much better Xbox Live is than PSN, post digital foundry articles when the Xbox is the winner but forget to post them when PS3 games are the clear winners like Castlevania and Vanquish. Should i go on? Espcially coming from you Gavin Manion calling them a PS3 fanboy site thats very rich indeed.

Thats another bone of contention with me. Yesterday you are raving about Black Ops in the review and yet calling the franchise as over staying its welcome if i remember correct. Did you enjoy that trip overseas?

I said Modern Warfare has overstayed its welcome, not Call of duty. I really, really disliked MW2.
To quote : “I’m not.. I think Modern Warfare has run its course, and overstayed its welcome.” That particular bone of contention is rendered moot.

And to imply that my opinions are bought is quite frankly insulting. The only one showing any real bias here is you.

lol this comment thread is getting epic

@AC!D, you mentioned Vanquish and like I said in the article we stopped posting comparisons because they became pretty much even.

    According to Digital Foundry

“Platinum Games says that it developed (Vanquish) on PS3 first and foremost, but it’s testament to the developer’s skill that v-sync is the only real differentiating factor between the lead platform and the 360 conversion, and there’s still a sense that controller response may well be the tiniest bit crisper on the Microsoft console. If you own both machines and are wondering which to buy, it’s a tough one to call overall but in my view, the v-sync implementation has to give the PS3 version the edge.”

If that’s not pretty much even I don’t know what is.

I’ve been regularly accused, during my tenure here of being an Xbox fanboy, a PS3 fanboy, and a boobs fanboy. Once, I got all 3 on the same day.

Only one of those allegations is true…and it’s the one that’s not console related.

It is all fair comment since Sony were the ones going on about 3d. Treyarch are the clear xbox fanboys in this case. It would be fair if they could give the reviewers a fair chance to play on both machines though , in order to give the public a clear indication if the code on either machine is up to the task.
