Brawlout revealed for PS4, Xbox One and PC

Smash Bros. is, and likely forever will be, a near perfect fighting game franchise. It’s endless depth is matched only by its nostalgic charm, bringing together the best faces in the Nintendo (and extended) business for a no holds barred, all out fighting experience. It’s a formula so near perfect that countless others have tried to replicate it. Brawlout, a new multi-platform title, is just the most recent to try and take a stab at it.

Revealed just before its gameplay debut at EVO this weekend, Brawlout is exactly what you’d expect a Smash Bros. inspired fighter to be. There’s a colourful roster of different fighters, each wth their own distinct fighting style. The emphasis here is on ground combos, with characters able to engage each other with short, long and special attacks. Just like Smash a percentage counter at the bottom will keep track of damage received, with a higher figure making you more vulnerable to being knocked out of the map.

It’s all on show in the game’s first trailer.

Aside from looking almost exactly the same as Smash Bros. (no seriously, it’s near identical), I must admit that I’m quite enamoured with Brawlout. There’s something about the art style that really appeals to me here, as well as the cute character design. Of course that means nothing if the game is functionally barren, and I’m sure we’ll hear a lot more about its combat complexity after it shows at EVO this weekend.

But if you’ve been looking for a game like Smash Bros. that’s not exclusive to a Nintendo device, this might be exactly what you need. Brawlout is slated for release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with up to eight-player multiplayer, local multiplayer and a single-player campaign. It’s expected to be out in Q1 of 2017.
