Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is indeed outselling Ghosts

Analysts said this year’s Call of duty had a slim chance of outselling the previous one. The last one was so bad that it scared customers off, they said. Activision, however, was confident that Advanced Warfare would manage to at the very least, match Ghosts sales. Early indications show Activision may have been right. According to GfK, who tracks the UK charts, Advanced Warfare is “convincingly” outselling Ghosts right now. But that’s not all.

According to the sales-tracking gurus, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sold more copies in the UK in its first week on sale than other heavyweight shooters by a staggering margin. They say its first week sales are 14 per cent higher than the first week tallies of Titanfall, Destiny and Wolfenstein: The New Order combined. That is a staggering amount of Call of Duty. GfK says that Advanced Warfare is now the 5th fastest selling Call of Duty game – coming in behind, presumably, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops and Black Ops 2.

Unsurprisingly, Xbox platforms were the most popular for the new game, accounting for 53% of sales. What makes it a little interesting though, is that despite the great big Xbox push, the single largest platform for the game is the PlayStation 4 with 35 per cent of sales. given the system’s larger install base, that’s perhaps not as surprising as it may seem. The Xbox One, with half the install base, managed to garner Xbox One at 32 per cent of the total sales.

uptake of the game on old gen systems is lower, with the Xbox 360 nabbing 21 per cent, and the PlayStation 3 securing a lowly 11 per cent. I do wonder though, if the current server issues will affect the game’s usually long sales tail. Will word of mouth prevent more people from picking the game up until it behaves online?

Here’s a look at the UK charts, without any specific numbers attached:

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
