Sweet child of light

Okay, I’m officially desperate for Child of Light now. It started as a pretty looking game that said the magical words “based on classic JRPG” – now, it is coming together with impressive music and even stage design from Cirque du Soleil. If it’s as amazing as it seems, I’m going to camp outside Ubisoft’s offices to beg them to make more like this.

I highly recommend watching this video about the music in Child of Light. I know not all of you can do it now but put it on your watch later list or something so that you can experience the music.

As detailed on the Ubisoft blog, Coeur de Pirate is the songstress behind the music of Child of Light. She explains in the video that when she began work on the project, they were just thinking of using a piano, guitar and maybe a cello. Of course, battle (and particularly boss battle) scenes were more intense, eventually leading to Ubisoft commissioning a full-scale orchestra.

Sound effects, like the music, were designed to cross the line between organic and magical. The image of flowers being used to make the wings sound effects will stick with me when I play the game.

Despite explaining some vague things about stage direction and design, I’m still not entirely sure what Cirque du Soleil brought to the project. It’s awesome that they collaborated – I’m a huge Cirque fan – but I’m not quite sure I see where it fits in. That said, the more awesomely creative people brought to the party, the better.

Child of Light is almost upon us. It releases 30 April and will be available to download on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and PC for the low low price of $14.99. I’m so enamored with this game, I may just need to buy it for every platform.
