It’s update time for Civilization: Beyond Earth. While there are a range of thing in this update, the most interesting is, of course, the connectivity with upcoming game, Starships. It includes some elements that should be all too familiar for gamers by now.
How will Civilization link with Starships? Why, with your my2K account, of course! Despite being developed by two teams, it’s time for some cross-game connectivity. According to the extensive update notes, this update will start laying the groundwork for integration between Civilization: Beyond Earth and Sid Meier’s Starships. We don’t know much more than that and the fact that you’ll need a my2K account to link them – as for actual linking gameplay, we have no clue how that will work.
Of course that’s not all. Wonders are getting an overhaul to make them more worthwhile and add some longer term effects. Also, there are changes to trade:
First of all, trade routes are still one of the primary resource generators for a given city. Now, trade routes will be unlocked primarily through city population. Constructing a Trade Depot allows trade routes to be built and gives the city one trade route slot. Other trade routes now unlock at population thresholds. This prevents players from using small cities as massive trade hubs during the middle- and late-game. Secondly, there is now an “auto-renew route” option, as requested by many players.
There are even changes to alien interactions. Friendly aliens are no longer a problem for those on the Harmony path; citizens will be able to work plots even if they’re occupied by aliens.
I haven’t played Civilization: Beyond Earth in about a month or so, but I was amazed at how much was already tweaked when I played it last. It’s a much more refined and intriguing strategy game now, and I think the changes to trade routes will be excellent – I just hope that my massive cities will get a ton of extra trade slots as a result. I love to trade in Civilization: Beyond Earth.
Are you looking forward to linking up Beyond Earth and Starships, or does a my2K account just mean yet another batch of login details to remember? I finally made a my2K account for Evolve, so I suppose that ship has already sailed for me.

I absolutely agree.
I remember finishing a big battlecruiser and then the entire side of the mothership opens up to let the beast out like it’s godzilla. So many great memories.
Even the campaign was great for a strategy game.
Many hours will be spent playing it once more.

What I’m most looking forward to is to play Civ V again once my pc has been upraded for GTA V : marathon game length on the largest possible map with largest number of civilizations. I’ve never had a pc that could handle that: end turns start to become unbearably long in the mid game

I love integration between games. It makes me happy. Paradox have that (fine you have to pay for it) nifty thingy where you can port your Crusader Kings II kingdom into Europa Universalis IV. Makes me happy. CONTINUITY, EXPLOSIONS, AND STARSHIPS! YEAHHHHHHAAAAAAAAA!

I have put in many hours, but not since December (small period in Jan tried it again). This game is good-ish. Needs DLC, needs proper updates. Too much sameness for me.
I really, really, hope the starships is good.
I have always wanted this as a game:
Play Civ 2 or 3, get to Stars, well done. Then game is Master of Orion 2, dominate and play in Stars. Take over Galaxy. Then new game, more diplomacy and stuff, galaxy against galaxy. (yes, yes, very small Galaxies, ok) And each galaxy has an amalgamation of race traits as per ratio. AWESOME, for me at at least.
