Civilization VI lets you choose a different leader for your country

Civilization vi gorgo

There’s an achievement in Civilization V that I’m still trying to get. It’s the one where you beat the game with every leader in the game. Whenever I play a new game, I try to take on a new role, a new challenge. It also means playing as a new country, though, which can take a bit of getting used to. Civilization VI will change that, though.

Every week, Civilization has announced a new leader for the game. After the first few, I honestly got bored and stopped noticing or caring. But then they released this one – an announcement for the leader of Greece, Gorgo. But wait, didn’t they already announce Pericles as the leader of Greece? Yes, yes they did. In fact, you will have a choice of leader in Civilization VI, which means you can take the same civilization inclinations in different directions depending on your leader. Here is the video:

I’m really curious how this will play out. Will there be fewer civilizations so that each of them can have multiple leaders? Will there just be tons of leaders and therefore a ridiculous amount of choice and impossible balancing act for Firaxis? Will some countries get more leaders than others?

I am seriously excited to finally get to play Civ VI – it releases soon and I’m far too amped for it. I am still a bit skeptical about the art style, but I’ve heard that when you see it all together instead of in screenshots, it actually looks quite cool. Mainly, I’m intrigued by the new approach to cities, although I have a feeling there will be other mechanics that also draw me in. With the game launching in about a week, we don’t have long to wait to see how it all fits together. Now excuse me while I do some research into all the leaders who will be on offer in the game.

Can Shaka Zulu lead the British Empire? That would be my first choice to play. Yeah.

If I play it soon. Which I doubt. Real life problems. Sigh.

I had a similar thought. But for me it was more like “Staling leading USA” or “Hitler leading Israel”. Ya know, messed up options.
