With fighting games once again more popular than Rihanna’s shapely legs, we’ve seen quite a few fisticuffs titles released in recent years. New, old and in between, there’s plenty of material out there waiting to be explored once again. Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter made a comeback of note, and now, so will Darkstalkers, in a roundabout way.
Darkstalkers Resurrection is the name of a new re-release of the classic game, as Capcom workhorse Yoshinori Ono announced it at the New York Comic Con. Combining Darkstalkers 2: Revenge and Darkstalkers 3 into one package, the re-release will sport some HD filtering, chievos, spectator mode and anti-lag technology.
You’ll have access to the usual saved replays, which can be uploaded to YouTube, while most importantly, online matchmaking can be tailored based on region and pingy stuff. Capping that off, is a challenge mode for the die hard fans, which will task players with mastering every single character in the game.
Capcom has been looking to bring back Darkstalkers for several years now, with Ono himself dropping hints, saying that if fan demand was high enough, that could be a reality. Well, here’s the perfect measuring stick to see just how beloved that fighting game franchise really is.
Darkstalkers Resurrection is currently set for a PSN and Xbox Live Arcade launch in early 2013.
