While gamers have yet to make a complete plunge from physical copies of games down to digital, the option to do so has still managed to pick up the pace in recent years. Most games these days are available ina digital flavour, with newer titles even having a pre-load option that saves you the hassle of buying and waiting. Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition on the PlayStation 4 however, is going to make you want to go with a physical copy of the game.
And that’s because the title happens to be fatter than Marlon Brando’s still rotting corpse. According to a post on NeoGAF, and my own observations on our local PSN, the Diablo 3 release that packs in the Reaper Of Souls expansion will set you back around 62.7GB worth of bandwidth. If you’re grabbing the game on the European PS4 storefront that is.
Meanwhile, our American and Australian gamer brethren will have to deal with a 26.1GB instead. So what’s the reason behind the massive size difference for us and the Europeans? Simple, it’s localisation. That’s a resource-intensive process, which throws in more uncompressed audio and I’m guessing other…stuff. I’m just making it all up right now, because I’m plenty confused.
But talk about a generation jump. Diablo 3 on PlayStation 3 was around 8.6GB when downloaded from the PSN store, with the Xbox 360 version being a similar size. So unless you’re rocking a rather hefty line speed, it might be better using the old-school method of visiting a game shop to grab the game.
Hell, it would take me an entire week to download that game on my current connection, something I’m well aware of after having spent two to three days at a time downloading games such as Thief and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

Apparently when Blizzard Patch, there’s a lot of Bloat files….
Check your current installed size on PC, I guarantee it’ll be bigger that you think… But NOT 62 GB though….

Last time I checked I’m pretty sure it was only bordering on 20GB. I will double check tonight but yikes… 64GB seems unbelievable. MMO’s aren’t even pushing that size

Those are usually part of the P2P large-patch assist files, and can be deleted once the patch installed.

If the PSN and XBOX live servers could work as well as Steam, You Could download the whole thing in a scant 35-odd on a 4Mbps line…

And Be DRM free, right?

If I’m not mistaken, Diablo 3 on consoles don’t need to be connected to servers in order to play. The disc based version is not linked to your profile or console. And you can sell the disc.
So yes, if the angels can piss on the digital DRM that would be nice.

I’m sure that it’s so big is because it’s including *all* European languages.

The difference between the U.S. and European versions of the game could be due to multiple language audio tracks in the European version, as well as multiple language cutscenes.
Some European commenters on the PlayStation Blog are reporting that preordering the game is queueing up multiple downloads. One is 20.5GB and seems to be just the English version of the game, and another is 37.8GB and seems to contain the European localization, though it’s unclear if users can choose which to download.
consider that Titanfall was about a 20GB download on PC, and 48GB when installed, due mostly to its uncompressed audio.

Uncompressed audio most likely. That’s why some last gen games were 50 gb despite having much lower quality assets. It’s because they had to be uncompressed because the read speed of the PS3 Bluray was a lot slower.
