Battlefield V is out later this month, and should be one of the first of a handful of games to support Nvidia’s brand new ray-tracing capable video cards. Of course, you’d need to actually one of those cards, which have yet to really prove their worth. Of course, that sort of hardware isn’t necessary, and the required PC specs range from lowly hardware right up to the sort of stuff that PC dreams are made of. While EA and DICE released specs for the beta, they’ve been a little quiet on the sort of horsepower required for the retail release of the game.

In a post on Reddit yesterday, that changed, with the DICE revealing minimum, recommended and DXR requirements. Take a look:

BATTLEFIELD V RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
  • Processor (AMD): AMD Ryzen 3 1300X
  • Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 4790 or equivalent
  • Memory: 12GB RAM
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1060 6GB
  • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ RX 580 8GB
  • DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
  • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
  • Available Disk Space: 50GB

RECOMMENDED PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR DXR

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10 October 2018 Update (1809)
  • Processor (AMD): AMD Ryzen 7 2700
  • Processor (Intel): Intel Core i7 8700
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce® RTX 2070
  • DirectX: DirectX Raytracing Compatible video card
  • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
  • Available Disk Space: 50GB

BATTLEFIELD V MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
  • Processor (AMD): AMD FX-8350
  • Processor (Intel): Core i5 6600K
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • Graphics card (NVIDIA): NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1050 / NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 660 2GB
  • Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon™ RX 560 / HD 7850 2GB
  • DirectX: 11.0 Compatible video card or equivalent
  • Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection
  • Hard-drive space: 50GB

There’s nothing especially revealing about those specs, though the minimum specs do show that older cards aren’t going to be too useful for too much longer. DICE also revealed all 8 maps that’ll be included in the game at launch.

The maps are set within France, Holland, Norway, and North Africa, and are called Twisted Steel, Arras, Narvik, Fjell 652, Rotterdam, Devastation, Hamada, and Aerodrome. Here’s a nice trailer showing them all off.

It looks nice, I suppose. I can’t help but feel that overall enthusiasm for Battlefield this year is down, but that’s really just an anecdotal observation.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
