Dino Crisis being remade by fans in Unreal Engine 4

The survival horror game that boasted hordes of dinosaurs rather than zombies is finally receiving some TLC as fans of the series commit to this new imagining of the original game.

Rumor-Dino-Crisis-Reboot

At the tender age of five I was a huge fan of dinosaurs, as I’m sure most children are. There’s just something so captivating about these giant monsters skulking around prehistoric earth that lends itself to an imaginative mind. Creatures that only exist in bones and pictures, by today’s standards it’s almost impossible to believe they existed in the first place. They’re a totally alien species to modern humans made all the more fascinating that we know they did actually exist. Dinosaurs are these magical history lizards that fuelled many a childhood dream.

And then many of those children played Dino Crisis and never wanted to look at a velociraptor ever again. The cult-classic survival horror game has earned a reputation for being one of Capcom’s worst-kept treasures, never receiving the love or accolades showered upon Resident Evil. Fans of Dino Crisis aren’t taking this lightly however and have started up a project to remake the whole game using Unreal Engine 4, calling themselves Team Arklay. They’ve released some footage of the game on YouTube, but it’s nothing special right now. Some atmospheric corridors might be a great place to start, but I think we’re all waiting for the dinosaurs to eventually be thrown into the mix.

This is an unofficial remake and there’s been no word on whether Capcom is looking at halting the development or is even aware of the existence of the project, although I can definitely see some legal hoops needing to be jumped through if Team Arklay wants to eventually distribute this remake. The best case scenario would be Team Arklay churning out a really solid piece of work, getting Capcom’s attention and being employed to work on an official remake. A boy can dream.

Say whatever you will about Epic but you have to at least admit that their engine is by far the best on the market.
