DUST 514 arrives May 14

Free to play. It’s the way to go I tells ya. And it’s all perfectly legitimate and fair when you think about it. Like a glorified demo version of a game, the whole idea is to hook you in and keep you on the end of that line. And one of the biggest experiments in that genre, DUST 514, finally arrives next month.

May 14 is the date to mark on your calendars for that PS3 exclusive release date (BECAUSE 5/14, GET IT?), as the F2P from CCP arrives ASAP after spending some time MIA with an APB that gamers have been paying attention to so that they can RSVP.

DUST 514 has the usual marketing talk, promising gamers an “an ever-progressing game” experience according to VG247.

“Reaching this point has required many years, hundreds of CCP employees, and the engagement of millions of players who contributed fantastic feedback during the beta process,” CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson said to VG247.

Now we start the real journey, which, decades from now, we will look back on with astonishment at all we accomplished. The EVE Universe will outlive us all.

It’s an interesting idea, I’ll give CCP that much. Possibly getting a jumpstart on that other massively online FPS, Bungie’s Destiny, their particular shooter is meant to have a lifespan similar to that of EVE Online, which has just entered a second decade of number-crunching and space battles.

DUST 514 will ship with massive arenas within which up to 32 players can battle, as well as “lethal dropsuits, skills and weapons,” alongside land and air vehicles.

one of the most complicated games I’ve ever had to play, but at the same time pretty addictive once you’ve curbed some of the learning … I’m of course talking about EVE Online not the dust portion of it.

Eve-Online really is something special. I’m sure after 10 years of development Dust514 will be pretty epic too 😀

I’ve been in the beta for over a year, and although it’s not a horrible game, it can’t compare to something like Battlefield 3. Apparently the pre launch patch will add all content and greatly improve the graphics. I really hope so cuz damn it’s an ugly game…

    I’ll revisit it then…

Yeah. On the stream they said the launch patch would fix the FPS issues, improve the graphics and add all missing racial guns and armors. They are also enabling the actual eve bit.. planetary conquest.

Played it with my keyboard and mouse on the PS3 and the gameplay was not bad. The FPS drops got to me.. If they fix that then I’ll be back.

I also joined the beta, it pretty much broke the title for me, soooo buggy / fugly.

Not sure where it’s sitting now, can’t say that I care either.

Also Dust514 has been confirmed for the PS4. So the graphics would be a lot better on the more beefy machine.

I think I’ll let this gather… Dust while they sort out all the teething problems, of which there will be many. Eve, you beautiful, life stealing harlot of a game. Sigh, if I had the time to play…

Don’t forget orbital bombardment. I can vouch for CCP. Watch this latest trailer and you’ll understand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZPCiqBLPM8

Eve rocks! Can’t wait to assist some fellow dust players from orbit. I wonder if you can lay siege against them and charge a ransom? Wouldn’t that be awesome

There are so many possibilities in EVE, I wouldn’t be surprised if one can do that 🙂
