E3- Unreal Tournament a PS3 timed Exclusive (confirmed)

44 second read

Sony seems to be getting back into gear in this console war. Sony and Epic revealed today that Unreal Tournament 3 was going to be a timed exclusive for the PS3 with Xbox and PC versions coming later down the line. I did report about this a while ago and it is yet another rumour that has turned out to be true…

It was also announced that the Unreal Engine is going to be optimised for use with the PS3 in a multi-stage deal. This is really good news for the PS3 as the Unreal Engine is easily the market leader when it comes to third party engines.

Not to mention that the PS3 will allow for user created mods and mouse/keyboard support.

Both of which I think should be left on the PC version IMHO… a mouse and keyboard will unbalance online play and user created mods is going to create a bunch of games that I can’t join because I don’t want to download little johnnies new skins…

  • after hearing news that the PS3 development teams are struggling with the UT Engine, and now hearing that we’ll only see XBOX and PC seeing a later launch, it begs the question of when will we see the game hitting our shelves…? ultimately this irritates me

The PC version will launch alongside the PS3 version it seems as per the Epic forums. LG’s note about little johnie’s skin is quite valid which in fact turns most PC gamer’s UT folders into a quagmire of files. Hope there is a builtin utility which can be used to manage such MODs easily within UT3.

One thing Epic could do to balance online gameplay is allow a server settings to enable or disable external hardware like keyboard/mouse to play the game. At least this will give gamers an option to play how they feel is the best.

PS3 Timed exclusive. more like epic have almost finished the xbox 360 version and it is going to be release in January 2008- So how long is this timedd exclusive –

Only so long as Halo will outsell it.

It is a very stratgic timed exclusicve on Epic part to maximise profit for the game.
