EA’s CEO explains why Sony is just more powerful than Microsoft

With Microsoft currently dominating Sony in the console wars in the US it can sometimes come as a surprise to American readers and others that EA and other videogame companies still prefer to partner with Sony.

The logic is pretty simple really as the rest of the world outside of America doesn’t have the same patriotic attachment to the Xbox 360 and the Sony brand is very well respected across Europe and Asia, not to mention us being an entirely Sony dominated country.

EA haven’t ever said they prefer the PS3 but at E3 it was pretty obvious which side of the fence they are sitting on and they have utilised the extra Blu-Ray space to great effect with some of their new bundles.

In the CEO’s own words

“At the same time, the Xbox brand, the Microsoft brand, doesn’t carry anywhere near as much sway as the Sony and PlayStation brand do outside the United States, and so I think the reality is the international marketplace is just so important and it’s a natural advantage that no matter how good Microsoft is at growing their business, Sony has an almost-impossible-to-supersede head start,”

However he’s not entirely taken with Sony and is only to happy to mention that Xbox Live is simply better than anything the PS3 is offering and he also hits out at the PS3’s limited content, which I feel is a little unfair now. The PS3 used to have limited content but over the past 12-18 months that has pretty much been sorted out.

In essence he backs both HD consoles to carry on bringing strong results to the table and don’t expect either of them to pack up and ship out anytime soon.

Hmmm this has actually more to do with Activision’s relationship with MS than anything else!
