Erron Black, Shinnok and Liu Kang’s variations get detailed in Mortal Kombat X

Erron Black

Somebody pick up the telephone. Because I freakin’ called it! The last couple of Mortal Kombat reveals have focused on older and established characters. Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and Ermac to name but a few. But Mortal Kombat X will have plenty of new faces making a bloody splash as well. And one of them is a rooting-tooting gunslinger who fill his hand with iron and your face with lead. I am of course, talking about Erron Black, the Outworld Cowboy.

Here’s a trailer filled with Erron Black’s gun kata attacks. And of course, a grisly fatality tease:

Like every other character in the game, Erron Black will also have three variations to work from, focusing on his wild west revolvers and arsenal. He’s kind of like Stryker, except not universally despised for unknown reasons.

  • Marksman – Erron Black wields a rifle which can be used as a melee weapon and opens up opponents for distance attacks
  • Gunslinger – Revolver-heavy attacks, that includes trick shots such as shooting a coin in mid-air and into an opponent
  • Outlaw – Erron Black uses a Tarkatan arm as a sword for close combat, that can also be used to slowly bleed an opponent

Plus, Black’s X-Ray attack literally has a bullet with your name on it. Classic. Geoff’s favourite Bruce Lee analogue, Liu Kang, will also be present as a Nether-Realm foe after the unfortunate events of Mortal Kombat 9 that ended with the jaded Mortal Kombat champ dying. As usual, his attacks will focus on fast hits, high combos and a fireball in yo face:

  • Dragon Fire – Classic Liu Kang attacks that have an increased emphasis on fireballs which can be charged
  • Dualism – Kang switches between light and dark styles of attack. Light gives him faster fireballs, but dark turns them into slower bombs
  • Flame Fist –  Punch attacks which allow Kang to coat his fists in fire which deal extra damage and can parry other players

Last up, Shinnok who was first seen in Mortal Kombat 4. He’ll be using attacks that take advantage of his elder god powers:

  • Imposter – Able to absorb the moves of opponents and steal their attack
  • Bone Shaper – Shinnok summons weapons crafted from bones
  • Necromancer – Shinnok calls forth gigantic skeleton arms to control the battlefield
  • Pay up – Makes Geoff pay me R50 whenever he loses a Mortal Kombat-related bet

Stupid Netherrealm Studios, ignoring my good variation ideas…
