FFD 2016

2016 has been marred with so many negative things. Too many celebrity deaths to count, as well as bizarre and divisive politics. But you know what has been great for me this year? Gaming. I have had some fantastic experiences with games this year.

I didn’t get to play all the games that I’d hoped to this year, but even so I got to enjoy Rise of the Tomb Raider, Stardew Valley, Crashlands, Civilization VI and I’m currently trying to stop enjoying myself to hurry up and finish Final Fantasy XV so that I can review it for all of you. In the middle of all of that, I was also playing The Witcher 3 – a game that technically isn’t from this year (unless you count the GOTY edition) but is still fantastic to play in 2016.

There were other stellar games that people have raved about this year – Uncharted 4, Watch Dogs 2, Dishonored 2, Hitman, Overwatch, the new WoW expansion, the Warfare updates, Quantum Break, Darks Souls III, Total War Warhammer, Titanfall 2… The list goes on and on. Now that I think about it, 2016 was a pretty great year for gaming.

But there were some other games that flopped or disappointed – No Man’s Sky instantly comes to mind. But even The Division didn’t have the longevity people were hoping for (although the new update might have fixed that). Call of Duty sales have been lackluster, and even the toys to life genre seems to be a bit, um, lifeless.

Was 2016 redeemed by all the awesome gaming on offer, or was that just another source of tragedy this year? What were you gaming highs and lows this year?
