If you weren’t having a great weekend and were stuck behind the computer at around 6pm on Saturday you would have noticed that the review embargo for Final Fantasy XII-2 (Whoops!- Ed) XIII-2 broke and the Internet was flooded with reviews.
We were meant to be a part of that flood but thanks to some last minute documentation that didn’t reach us in time we couldn’t release a quality review in time. So we’re now waiting in the review copy queue with the rest of the planet. Hopefully it won’t be long before our review copy arrives.
But lets not dwell on the things that make me incredibly angry and let’s rather see if Final Fantasy XIII-2 is even worth picking up and reviewing.
First up we have the exclusive IGN review, you will notice that the IGN review was out a full 24 hours before anyone else and they’ve given the latest Final Fantasy episode a solid 8/10
And the rest of the exclusive sites that were given the title with enough time to review it?
- GameTrailers – 88/100
- XGN – 85/100
- IncGamers – 80/100
- Destructoid – 80/100
- Playstation Official Magazine UK – 80/100
- Eurogamer Italy – 80/100
- Play – 80/100
- Playstation Official Magazine US – 80/100
- Game Informer – 80/100
- 1UP – 75/100
- GameSpot – 75/100
So that’s a solid 8/10 across the board and you know what I think it means when all the early reviews of a huge title like Final Fantasy have the same score? I think it’s strongly advisable to hold off on that purchase until the non-NDA’d reviews hit after the 3rd of the month.
It could just be an exceptionally solid 80% or it could be that people are hesitant to mark it down due to it’s incredibly lineage and feel good factor that a solid series always has.
What do you think, is it a solid looking addition to the Final Fantasy universe or is something a little off here?
