Fist of Jesus punches open a can of worms

Fist of jesus

I love a good tongue-in-cheek game. Just look at the hilarious way Broforce makes fun of American patriotism by making a fun and ridiculous game. Fist of Jesus could do the same, if it doesn’t offend everyone along the way.

Fist of Jesus has launched on Steam with the following trailer:

As if that weren’t enough, Fist of Jesus is a gore beat ’em up classic style arcade game with some RPG elements. Plus, it has the following description:

Fist of Jesus tells the adventures of Jesus and Judas, where the world is now full of Zombies caused by Lazarus’ resurrection. Cowboys, the Roman Army, Mythological Creatures and Steampunk technology in the 80’s style, all packed with lots of fun.

Of course, there are people who don’t like tongue in cheek stuff when it comes to their beliefs. Lazarus turned into a zombie story, Jesus and Judas working together to kick ass – well that just might not fly for some people. However, rather than worrying about offending people, it seems that the developers have just decided to punch open that can of worms without any fear. Sure, the same game without the Jesus and Judas hook might not get the same attention, but Fist of Jesus still looks hilariously awesome nonetheless.

For those who are offended, I recommend not playing it. For those who can see it’s all meant to be lighthearted fun, it’s time for some divine punishment!

If you wrote a videogame parodying gays and lesbians it could also well be light hearted fun.

or mayb e a movie like Priscilla Queen of the Desert, that was fun..

if you made a light hearted parody game using an LGBTQ context, sure, why not? As long as things are approached in a way that isn’t hateful but rather meant to be fun and enjoyable gaming, I’m behind it.

So… Let’s make a game where one race of 2 guys kills a different colour race of Zombies (for obvious reasons I wont define the colours) but keep it a light hearted parody.

Very true @dawith. Put gays or lesbians (amongst others) in a ‘satirical light’, you’ll have riots in the streets. Make fun of Christians (or rather Jesus Christ Himself!!) and people get upset, they’re called ‘Jesus Freaks’.
      Hypocritical indeed.

True it is unfortunate that some religious people are psychos but my point is if you want to mock one religion then you should mock all of them. If not then you shouldn’t mock any of them. Otherwise you are a hypocrite. As a Christian I am not really offended by this game because I won’t play it and I am not going to damn anyone who plays it.

All beliefs are open to be mocked. The Scientologist the most! The issue comes in when you mock Islam, and even moderates will cut your head off. It’s a crazy world we live in.

To me this type of thing is paramount to bullying, by taking someones beliefs and mocking them. So when you look at it from the outside it seems that the guy taking offence is overreacting but when it is something that directly affects you, suddenly it is an altogether different manner.

What is, we are discussing offending people. If you base that on your beliefs and non beliefs then if I were to not believe in depression I could therefore mock it, as many still do.

            October 21, 2014 at 14:01

yes you could, you have every right to mock something. you could mock me all day long and I wouldn’t care. I dont get offended by what other people say/believe etc…

So not a list of positive things then. Essentially to make someone feel bad by getting a group of people to point and laugh.

          • loftie

            October 21, 2014 at 14:23

does it matter whether its positive or not? let people point and laugh if they want to… If you get offended its your problem. if I was the one being laughed at it wouldn’t phase me in the least and I cant understand why I should be phased by it anyway

          • Weanerdog

            October 21, 2014 at 14:32

But yet if you are depressed how many people will tell you to snap out of it or it really isn’t that bad.

And you don’t need to believe in gravity cause you know gravity believes in you.

            October 21, 2014 at 14:39

And again, that is because of their ignorance. Ignorance doesn’t bread respect I am afraid. And gravity doesn’t believe in anything, just like the chair I am sitting on doesn’t believe it’s lucky to have my butt on it 😛

          • Weanerdog

            October 21, 2014 at 14:50

Firstly the gravity bit was a parody of a religious quote (hence me being a hypocrite)

Secondly if you used your intern as a chair like any normal overbearing person your argument would be invalid.

Thirdly not respecting someone and openly mocking them are not the same. My philosophy is that you should be a dick to someone unless they really are a dick.

So you make a game that is light hearted and fun that does so by mocking someones belief system and then tell them not to be offended or rather don’t play the game. Just because this is not your belief, does not mean that is OK to dismiss it as not offensive. It is amazing how people will always tell you not to be offended until it is something that offends them. The context of this game is unnecessary and is only included to be offensive or to be popular.

My issue is when OTHER’s beliefs DO affect MY life. Take the issue around abortion or a freaking PAID FOR porn channel, or my favourite; causing / forcing booked international bands to cancel shows, because of THEIR beliefs. My issue comes from indoctrinating and brain washing children into believing in a system that will retard their personal growth for many years to come. This is why I have scorn, and a little bit of bitterness to top it all off.

People fuck up their kids all the time. That is where bigots, misogamists, racists etc come from it is not purely the realm of the religious parents that indoctrinate their offspring.

Look I am not trying to change your point of view, all I am trying to say is that mocking anyone is not cool, regardless of your feeling towards them.

The problem methinks for Christians with this game comes in the form of the story. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the grave, he did not raise Lazarus as a zombie, but as a fully alive human being (sorry about the language usage)
But for those Christians that get upset, simply this: Do not play/buy the game. The same way you avoid anything else that mocks/does not sit right with your point of view.
    Simple as that.
