Former Naughty Dog Art Director jumps ship to Tomb Raider

There was a time, not so long ago, when Naughty Dog looked like they were in trouble. There weren’t any financial issues, but many of their top employees were leaving one after the other, sparked by the departure of Uncharted writer Amy Hennig. Nate Wells, art director on The Last of Us, was one of those departures, and he’s found a new explorer to work with.

After a short stint with The Unfinished Swan team, Nate Wells has joined Crystal Dynamics to work on their Tomb Raider sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider. Wells worked with Giant Sparrow on the Unfinished Swan release for PS4 and PS Vita, and presumably on their unannounced project. But yesterday he revealed that he had jumped ship, working with a new explorer altogether.

Considering what a visual masterpiece The Last of Us was, Crystal Dynamics can count their lucky stars. Wells brings with him over 13 years of experience at Irrational Games, as well as time with Naughty Dog and Giant Sparrow. He’s probably one of the best artists around in the AAA scene today, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the timed Xbox One exclusive.

Have you already written Crystal Dynamics’ sequel off due to it’s confusing exclusivity deals, or are you excited to see her back in gear and ready to explore? Rise of the Tomb Raider will be out this time next year.

Have they told us yet how long the timed exclusivity lasts? Or are MS still behaving like a sulky child & keeping the precious secret to themselves?

MS says you are being rude for asking and also, screw you for not buying THEIR console.

Even if I had an Xbone, I will go out of my way NOT to buy the game on that console. Out of principle. But to me honest, I don’t really care.

First it will be a timed exclusive. Secondly there’ll be a bundle deal and third a Games with Gold sale. Then the rest can have some TR 😛
