The 15th Annual British Academy Gaming Awards was held in London last night, and saw the critically-acclaimed title take home not just the top trophy, but also the awards for Audio Achievement, Music, Narrative, and to Jeremy Davies for his performance as The Stranger. This makes God of War the winner of five out of the ten categories it was nominated for.

The rest of the ceremony was a diverse collection of winners. Lucas Pope’s mystery game Return of the Obra Dinn secured wins for Artistic Achievement and Game Design, while Nintendo Labo was given top honours in the Family and Game Innovation categories.

The big losers of the evening turned out to be Rockstar’s Old West simulator Red Dead Redemption 2, and Celeste, who walked away empty handed despite receiving six and five nominations respectively.

Speaking to the BBC, God of War game director Cory Barlog noted his excitement and pleasure for the awards, and that story-led games could be just as “relevant” as the currently-popular Battle Royale titles such as Fortnite.

Speaking of which, Epic’s giant monster took the award for Evolving Game, while the British Game award went to Forza Horizon 4. The BAFTA’s Debut Game was Yoku’s Island Express, while Australian interactive game Florence received a special shout-up upon winning Mobile Game.

This year also saw the introduction of a new category. The EE Best Mobile Game of the Year award is given to a title that is voted on by the public, instead of the BAFTA committee. The award went to multiplayer RPG Old School Runescape.
