Has the COD: Ghosts hype train passed?

3 min read

The launch of COD: Ghosts was a big deal. It sold massive amounts in the first day and received a ton of hype. Now, almost two weeks later, has the hype train passed? Are people returning to Blops 2 instead? Which multiplayer game actually reigns supreme?

Thanks to the awesomeness that is Steam Graph, we can actually chart beautiful graphs to see what people are playing. Check out what the story is with COD:

Which COD reigns supreme

Okay, so there has been a significant drop in the number of people playing Ghosts. However, it’s not as if we’re seeing the other games rise dramatically. We were actually more surprised by the number of people who are still playing MW3! There is always a surge for a new game as everyone starts playing to see what the fuss it about. Despite post launch taper, we still see more people playing Ghosts than Blops. Also, these are just the people playing on PC through Steam – how many more people are playing on console? These numbers may not be definitive, but they certainly give an indication on trends. I’m still curious to see how Ghosts fares on the eSports stage. Have you played Ghosts? Are you still playing, or have you moved on (or back) to other games?

Oh, and while we’re talking about game popularity, I know that a lot of you think that I give a lot of undue attention to Dota 2 – why do I consistently report on the MOBA when there are other eSports out there? Well, here is a graph of how many people played Dota 2 compared to COD: Ghosts and Blops in the past month:
