The cheapest stand alone HD-DVD player has just been announced by Venturer. The recommended price will be $199 and according to the source this may mean that people could pick them up from WalMart for $150…
So using the import maths we times that by 10 and see that it may be remotely possible to pickup a HD-DVD player for R1500 just in time for christmas…
While it may boost sales for the HD-DVD camp and it is something that Blu-Ray needs to keep an eye on I don’t see this holiday season as defining anything in the long run..

You see i don’t know, why is this player SOOO much cheaper? it’s most likely got really cheap quality. I would be very “used car” suspicious with it.
This isn’t to say I against it, I mean, I’d buy one, only I’m still trying to pay off the home load I took out on the ps3….

Once you see it and do a visual check at its slightly superior quality over BR you will change your tune, true region free movies and dual sided DVD & HD-DVD discs give you versatility. Google it. 😉
