Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is releasing in mid-March on PS4 and Xbox One. While it’s promising to be a new, darker kind of Final Fantasy, there are still some familiar elements to it. Some new screenshots might just make you feel a bit more comfortable with the game.

Here is the latest batch of screens that show off the various characters.

I know it’s silly, but I find it strangely reassuring to see Bahamut, Cid, Shiva and Ifrit. I knew that they’d make an appearance – it wouldn’t be a Final Fantasy game without them. It’s just still nice to see the continuity, even across a non-numbered Final Fantasy game.

I think we need to be prepared for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. Remember, it will still play like a PSP game – it’s not going to be massive or showing off the full power of the PS4/Xbox One. The game probably won’t last that long compared to typical JRPGs. That said, according to HowLongToBeat, the main story is 31 hours. Adding in all the extras, you’re looking at 84 hours of gameplay. That’s really not too bad and probably means that the average player will get about 40-50 hours of gameplay. Pretty good for an HD remake of a PSP game.

The more I see about this game, the more excited I get for it. Maybe I’m just hungry for a JRPG on new generation console, but I’m keen for the whole thing – characters, aesthetic, story and gameplay. I hope that it’s been modernized enough to not feel like a clunky port; that would be a big disappointment after seeing all the visual improvements that they’ve done.
