Marco Spitoni is a talented guy. He’d have to be because he works for WETA, the New Zealand-based special effects team that did all the shiny stuff for films like The Lord of the Rings and Avatar. When he’s not busy putting together amazing effects for major films, he’s putting together neat little CGI shorts. His latest is what he calls “a fan movie†and “homage [to] the intellectual properties belong[ing] to Valve Corporationâ€.
It’s called “I’m the Freeman†and the entire thing is CGI. It has Striders! It also has that awesome riverboat versus helicopter sequence in it.
Marco Spitoni has a whole lot of interesting odds and ends on his personal webpage. Pay it a visit and you can even download this very trailer in shiny 1280 x 720. How thoughtful of him!
I think out of all of the games that are around at the moment, Half-Life would probably make a pretty awesome film. The idea has been tossed around the internet for a while now, and it’s likely to remain getting tossed around some more. Were things to take off and an actual Half-Life movie to appear, part of me hopes that it would be more like this and less live-action in presentation. At least the characters would look like they do in the game.
