Last week, Nick begrudgingly told you about the Michael Bay directed trailer for the latest Need for Speed, The Run, and how you could get access to that trailer by doing EA’s marketing for them, by liking a Facebook page. It seems that’s worked – and more than 250 000 clicked the necessary “thumbs-up” icon to get the trailer released.
And here it is, in all its explosion-filled glory. It contains everything you’d expect from Michael Bay; cinematic melodrama, heart-racing chase scenes, exciting cut-aways and yes, explosions.
The Run is an action-arcade racer following Jack, who must race across the United States for the sake f his life; which is as compelling a reason as any. You can catch a “making-of” video after the trailer. The game, due next week, uses DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine – which allows for all sorts of environmental destruction like avalanches, rock slides, and more avalanches.
As somebody who consider sim racers to be mildly interactive screensavers, this appeals to me much more than Forza or GT; but I consider Mario Kart and Burnout to be the pinnacle of racing games, so my opinion – in this regard – is pretty worthless. Let us know what you think.
