In gaming, marketing can often be a make or break situation. Big games usually pull out all the stops in order to get their title cemented in the mind of the public conscience, hiring big name actors and directors to film a quick spot or two. But a lot of game developers and publishers don’t have that kind of scratch on hand. So what’s a game to do? Why slag off the competition of course, American politics style!
Devolver Digital is doing just that, as they’re offering 100 Xbox Live Arcade codes for Serious Sam 3 BFE to anyone who takes the time to rip Medal of Honour: Warfighter a new arsenal. In a blog post, Devolver described the latest FPS title from EA as “yet another military shooter where cover is king and most folks spend their time peeking out form behind a wall or a strategically placed concrete barrier”.
“That shit is weak.”
We’ve had our fair share of controversy so far about the game, and honestly, it’s the most average shooter on the market at the moment, a game that is merely going through the motions of shooting random Arab terrorists. Devolver says that anyone that wants to enter, needs only raise concerns about “the stagnant modern military shooter” on Twitter, and use the hashtag #SeriousSam3XBLA when they do so.
Or post something on the Facebook page. Is it a cheap shot from Devolver to get some attention to their shooter game which is kind of also a basic kill everything on screen title? Yes, yes it is. But the idea is also far more original than Warfighter at least.
