Super Mario Characters In Christmas Socks Wallpaper

Ah, the Wii U, this generation’s Dreamcast. I love my Wii U, but there honestly aren’t many games that I want to play on it. Now, ex-Sony developer Kenny Linder is predicting that this is the last year we’ll see any mention of Nintendo’s next-gen console.

Linder took to NeoGAF to air his opinions, and later remove them. However, Nintendo Life managed to capture his words before they disappeared. He begins by saying that releasing Super Mario 3D World on the same day as the PS4 released in the EU was not wise – definitely a valid point. He goes on to say:

I think retail and the market will push Nintendo in a direction whether they like it or not. They MUST be in danger of losing shelf space at this point. Retail will have four major consoles (PS3/4, 360/One) plus 3DS/2DS to push which will all move units, and it looks like Mario can’t help even poor Wii U out. If it goes from shelves, it will be finished. I am still confident in my crazy mind that Wii U will not see another Christmas after this one. But that’s just me. The future games will just get moved/axed.

[…] I wonder if the same gamers who buy Nintendo home systems (150k of them in UK) are the same gamers that buy PS4/Xbox? That might explain lack of sales this week. Otherwise, nobody gives a s***.

I think Nintendo has a lot of work to do to explain the value of their new console. Giving away free consoles and installing Mario in major airports over the holidays may help, but the reality is that most people simply do not see the value in the Wii U. With low demand, retail will be less inclined to give it decent (or any) shelf placement, leading to even lower awareness and demand.

I’m not sure this will be the Wii U’s last Christmas, but Nintendo has a lot of work to do in 2014 to convince consumers that the Wii U is a must-have console.

Yes it is. If they had listened to me 2 years ago they would not have been playing with their wii and doing stupid shit like releasing their only system seller on the same day as the PS4.

They can drown this dolphin like they did the last for all I care.

I am still buying a Wii U because Nintendo are the only company that build there shit to last for decades and decades. No fully compat gaming required unlick the other chynobal machines.

Last XMAS before they shift all of there Wii U funds over to dominate the Japanese handheld market.

At least it outlived the kick ass console, the Gamecube.

It is a damn shame. I still put it down to them getting too cocky because of the Wii success.

The hardcore left them after the Gamecube was booted out the back door in favor of Wii Sports and Soccer moms.

Agreed. Though it looks like an amazing game, releasing it on the same day as the PS 4 is just poor marketing. Hell, at least they are being consistent in that…

      Elite? Hmmm. Ok then.

I blame this on always having to do something. While I comment currently, I’m having KFC, moving a VM between datastores, reading up on steam specials, doing SAP support for our UK branch, fixing SAP authorizations in Wellington branch, responding to emails and also scratching my balls.

When I sit still and do nothing, MY BRAIN hurts.

Oh, and also playing tiny death star on my phone

          I HAVE TO KEEP BUSY!

So jamming tiny death star while driving or seriously taxing the cpu on my s4 in a queue.

I blame myself for doing this to myself.

I like to think it’s because people want to encourage children to excel, but once they see me they know there’s no hope of even matching the sheer brilliance that is me, thus dooming the children to meaningless, unfulfilled lives.

The problem is that Nintendo went after the family and casual market with the Wii, while more traditional gamers went elsewhere. Now the casual gamers don’t need another console because they already own a Wii while the gamers have moved onto PS4/XBONE.

Scrap the Wii U and re-release Super Mario 3D World on Xbox 360, One, PS3, and PS4… and Nintendo is saved from utter annihilation.

I honestly just think that Nintendo needs to start looking at their launch dates.

You need to release a Nintendo console with Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Mario and well mainly a shit load of Nintendo games.
