I’m not even going to explore the sexual and psychological meaning behind the fact that little girls love horses – let’s not go there. However, Minecraft is updating to version 1.6 and is known as the “Horse Update”. But there’s a lot more to it.
The official list of changes from the Mojang website are:
- Added Horses
- Added Donkeys, Mules
- Added Horse Armor
- Added Leads
- Added Carpets
- Added Hardened Clay, Stained Clay
- Added Block of Coal
- Added Name Tags (item)
- Added Hay Bales
- Texture packs are now “resource packs” that also can hold sound etc
- Food meter is now drained when healed by full food meter
- Removed Herobrine
They received help on the horses from Dr. Zhark, the mod creator famous for his Mo’Creatures Mod. However, speaking of mods, this upgrade will mean some recoding for the modding community. According to developer Nathan Adams, aka Dinnerbone:
We’re also including a new metadata format so that we (and mods/plugins) can easily include whole new types of resources with very minimal difficulty. Unfortunately, this means that all current texture packs will break… We’ll be working on another unstitcher-like tool to aid with the conversion, and hopefully this will be the last major breakage to texture/resource packs in the foreseeable future. The new format will allow us to more easily detect out of date packs and possibly even load them as if they were up to date.
So, prepare for all your texture packs to break, and then rise again from the ashes. At least you’ll get to play with horse armor!
