Lightning Returns and is oh so social

I am much derided in the office due to my Final Fantasy fangirl status.  I can’t help it, I just LOVE JRPGs and Final Fantasy in particular.  FFXIII was pretty bad, though, and as they try to fix it things just get worse.  Now, this latest iteration makes me question if I must give up my fangirl-ness.

Siliconera is reporting that after defeating bosses, you will be able to share your score on Facebook and twitter.

Really?  REALLY?!  First of all, they obviously have no idea who plays Final Fantasy – us JRPG fans in the West love to play our games, grind for hours on end, and do so without any friends competing with us.  Sure, after the fact we might talk about interesting moments or experiences playing the game, but I can’t imagine anyone wanting to share their score when beating a boss – let alone on Facebook.

Also, this sorta confirms that there won’t be any surprises in the game.  In previous iterations, some of the bosses were strange, unique and shocking when it came to the story.  Imagine you’re playing through Lightning Returns and see someone shares a boss battle score against someone you thought was an ally?  Spoiler Alert!?  Essentially, this means that we can expect a bland, predictable story in Lightning Returns.  Great, just what the franchise needs.

I just hope that this is an experiment in these lesser Final Fantasy games, and that they don’t add these features to the ‘real’ ones.  I will be very upset if they ruin FFXV this way.

true dat, single player jrpgs are meant for people who like to be alone and hide away from the world, effectively disappear while you escape to the fantasy world, you dont want to be sharing that shit on social sites dammit.

Im currently playing Ni no Kuni, and I dont want to broadcast I have just solved some bloody fairies problem, mun.

Oh yes, because it’s SO difficult to turn off the social media stuff in game. Man I wish fangirls like you would just STFU about this stuff. If you don’t like it, then here are some suggestions:

        1. Don’t buy it
        2. If you do buy it, turn off the social media
        3. Sit down, shut up and learn to appreciate what you have in life instead of crying over spilled milk.

Do you guys have an actual office? Or more like a Skype chatroom?

The Final Fantasy Series is all but dead for me currently. Maybe, just maybe, FFXV could revive my passion for it, but that too looks kinda weird currently.

Its like they have to fill in extra sounds during a scene because the Japanese made the scene longer before they localise it into english but the scene is still the same cut.

Is this franchise for 13 year old Japanese School girls? because it seems to be that way. FFX-2 also had all that teen J-POP but it did have a good emotional story and the job system from 5 made a cool return.

But I am just speechless. Amazing how a game for teens back in 1995 had more mature undertones with a Buddhist feeling, yet the medium was very limited when trying to convey an emmo story. Yet it succeeded far beyond the eye candy that we have today.

I would say that maybe we all just got old, but then Lost Odyssey disproves that.

I think sqeenix went for the popcorn demographic with this one to widen the fanbase but DAMMM kids are stupid these days if one has to simplify everything down to mashing the x button.

Get rid of voice acting, get rid of the 3d, go back to still backgrounds AND WRITE A PROPER STORY.

WHERE ARE MY FUCKING KICK ASS SUMMONS??????? After my LIMIT BREAK failed????

Oh I just came up with a brilliant idea. Pubs & devs are always complaining that people never finish games – so they’re wasting time & money making one. So why not skip making an ending as part of initial dev & release it as a DLC later for $10. Problem solved. BOOM!

I am so unimpressed right now, I keep hoping that the next installment will fix the shit storm they have been releasing but no, it doesnt appear to be so.
I am one of the fans who thinks FF7 was the best thus far, thats right I said it, #7 NOT #6.
The memories FF games have given me for so many years, the enjoyment and excitement playing them and anticipating the next release has always been a highlight of my gaming life.
And since #12 I just get sadder and sadder with each new release, I never even finished 12, I couldnt stay interested, I didnt care, and that seems to be the trend since then. I hope Lightning suffers an unfortunate fate, like being disemboweled by a chocobo, that is how little I care.

Remember how it hit you when Sephiroth killed Aerith, or the lake scene between Tidus and Yuna, that was character development, you connected with them and cared, powerful moments in legendary games. Or grinding your ass off to kill the strongest bosses they could think of, hours upon hours that you were willing to give.

I wont even part with my money for this, nevermind my time.
I hope #15 takes it back to some old roots, I want a massive open world to explore, I want tactical turn based combat, I want tons of secrets and treasures to find, I want some bloody summons that shake the foundations of the earth and i want to earn them (knights of the round!), I want to unleash the fury of hell with my limit breaks, I want to spend as many hours as I can find grinding my character levels to beat insanely stupid endgame bosses.
AND I DONT WANT TO SEE A SCRAP OF FUCKING DLC IN ANY OF THIS.

    But thats just me.
