LittleBigPlanet Beta Review – LittleBigMadness

LittleBigPlanet preview

Unfortunately none of us here at Lazygamer managed to get a Beta key for LBP so for now we have to rely on other reviews.

We are exploring other avenues at this time to get a key though so wish us luck.

Okay back to the review, I found a site this morning called LittleBigMadness who have posted a review of their beta experience so far. Obviously from the name of the site we can work out that this is a fansite and therefore everything has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

However it really does sound like Media Molecule have pulled it off and the game sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun. They don’t mention any technical glitches at all and also say that the level creation is really easy which is a relief to me.

On the negative side however there doesn’t seem to be any great way of sorting the custom made levels beyond a couple of tickboxes that say “Add this to my favourites”, “Would you play it again” and then a textbox for you to put a single word in to describe the level.

I have a feeling some of Nick’s special words are going to be making an entrance here and we will be seeing levels full of awesomenissity…

The most important thing is that LBP isn’t being harmed by the demo which is always a good sign.

In the beta, pretty awesome thus far. Physics is top notch and its cute as hell. Also saw some really awesome maps.

Now for the bad side, this might just be restricted to the beta, but I get booted from the network every few mins (When in create mode), now again this might be associated with the beta, needing to check auth every few mins. Also some objects disappear when moving it around fast, but this then just boots me off th network.

Basically, every huge problem is brought upon this auth system. I do feel however that the create mode might be too complicated for the casual market, but after a long ponder, most things in the world is too taxing for the casual market.

Other than that, its awesome. Open for questions btw.

How intelligent is the control layout? Does it have you wanting a mouse to set the items up?

I’ve never been booted thus far. Rock solid on my side. The control layout surprised me and it’s dead easy navigating most aspects of the beta. Even my PS3 Eye works 100% in the BETA. Actually I can’t find anything that doesn’t work in the BETA. I wonder if us BETA testers can share the download like other PSN Content as it works fine with any of my other profiles online, unlike my HOME beta that will only login with my US account. I even got my GF into the game, it asks her to choose another profile char off my PS3 and it keeps all her customisations and goodies found when she logs into her profile and plays. Wicked. So polished its scary.
