MAG, the 256-player multiplayer game from Zipper Interactive, got a huge overhaul today. So huge, in fact, that it was assigned that impressive “2.0” moniker.
The most interesting change is certainly the addition of Move support. I have no idea how well Move support works in the game, so if you have MAG, a Move, and the new patch, please comment and let us know how well it works. My first guess is “not very”, but what do I know. What is impressive is how Zipper has looked to fix as many technical issues as they can, especially since some of the biggest criticism were animation.
The patch weighs in at “36MB (TPPS), 532MB (DLS)”. I have no idea what those abbreviations mean, other than I feel sorry you if you have to get the 532MB patch.
Check after the jump for the full changelist. I recommend you get a cup of coffee, since this is massive.

Patch is live. It’s taking ages to download though. I think it’s going about 40kb/s (on my 10Mb line).

TPPS is the patch on the Sony servers and DLS is the patch on the MAG servers.

Ok installing now. I have the Move controller ready. Now to see if an FPS can be played nicely with the Move controller…

Well the update is great! A lot more customising (way more confusing though since there is so much).
In terms of the Move controller: It was pretty cool. A bit harder than I thought it would be.
I mean if you doing some long distance shooting with a normal controller you can just slowly inch the reticle over the enemy and not worry about it moving. Now you have to stay uber still and really focus to do something like that. I think that’s great though. Adds to the realism and stops people with AK’s from taking 500m shots at you.
The other ‘issue’ is when you are close up. It can be hard to turn and aim with the Move (remember you move your reticle to the edges of the screen to turn your character). Knifing is pretty impossible (the patch nerfed it which doesn’t help) because you have to jab your controller forward – thus sending your reticule in every direction but in front of you. Again that might not be a bad thing, one person shouldn’t be able to run into a room of 5 people and kill them all with a knife.
I’m going to reserve full judgement until the Navigation controller comes out. I actually didn’t think it was so bad using the DS3 on my knee but I’m sure the Nav will be better.
I’ll try again tonight – I saw there are loads of settings. Also If I move closer to the camera it might help (or further and then stand up)

Just to add.
I think playing a Move only group of people would be awesome. I think the game really should allow that.
Move vs DS3 it very one sided at the moment. Which is obvious – I’ve been using a DS for 10 years and the Move for 10 minutes.

I doubt the Move will ever be as effective as the DS which is Move controlled games won’t ever work unless they can exclude DS controllers in the game.
I would prefer a Move enabled FPS like that IF we were all doing it… that would be fun 🙂

I think KZ3 will have Move only games.

Thanks RSA-Ace, you’ve definitely got me salivating for some Move-enabled MAG.
