Mass Effect 2 Disc Swopping Detailed

I’m declaring this Friday Mass Effect 2 day – that’s how excited I am for the sequel to one of my favourite games. Word is it’s pretty good. It’ll be releasing locally on Friday – a day I may or may not be *cough* faking illness. Or at least that would have been the case.

The game will be coming on two discs (and, depending on the quality of the game’s purported sex scenes, I may be doing the same), which means that Xbox 360 gamers will be tasked with the daunting burden – an increasing trend – of actually swopping discs. The folks over at IGN have detailed how the disc swopping will work and contrary to earlier reports from Bioware that only one swop was necessary, it seems that will strangely no longer be true.

Players will start with Disc 1 for the introduction and early level choices, then go through a funnel level of sorts, where they will need to switch to Disc 2, Houston said. From there they will play the middle portion of the game, which is mostly on Disc 2. Then after another funnel point in the story they’ll go back to Disc 1.

“The decision was made due to the nature of having to go to two discs for what is a non-linear game and fitting the right amount of content onto each of the discs,” he added. “This way players won’t have to swap their discs multiple times during the middle of the game.”

What they should have done is make part of it installable like Forza 3 so that disc swopping would be unnecessary. Screw those guys with arcade units – you’re not proper gamers anyway! What kind of bullsh*t is this!? Having to get up twice to swop discs within a 30 hour period?

F*ck that, If I wanted a workout I’d have signed up at Virgin Active.

    Agreed that it should have been like Forza 3… I have one of those Arcade units however I got a 60GB HDD for it last year.

      Wow, only after bothering to read what you wrote did I realise that you are a douche bag.

      There are people here who are dying with anticipation for Mass Effect 2 and will only play the game on Friday and they are willing to spend their hard earned cash on it, so do us all a favour and don’t come in here telling us that you’ve played it twice, and that means it’s almost worth your money. You have done nothing to support the industry that we all love and to make it worse, you shove it in other peoples faces?

      Please.

    Managed to get my hands on ME2 and imported my level 50 ME1 character through a very nicely detailed process. Game is riveting and it really sucks a player into it.

    @WitWolfyZA and the Author

    I stumbled upon this thread when googling about how many disc changes would be involved. Sorry but as a individual with a wife,friends,social life and somebody who has ACTUALLY had sex, we don’t get promotions at work based on how much xbox time we grind out on weekends ! OK? Don’t get me wrong i LOVE me2 and games like it BUT many people have arcade boxes. don’t see the need to copy ten games at a time to my hard drive. only play then and save achievements and 256mb is PLENTY to do that with.

    You can’t be serious about not wanting to move your potato chip azz to swap a disc. i could prolly push u over with my pinky Geoff!

      I wasn’t serious. I employed something known as satire. to save you from having to use google, the definition of satire reads as “Irony, sarcasm, or caustic wit used to attack or expose folly, vice, or stupidity.”

    Using Google? nah, relax techy, just because I don’t talk in RPG shorthand doesn’t mean I won’t understand your use of simple lexicon. The two Masters degrees I have speak to that as do my career achievements lol.

    I was busting your hump cause you were trying to make a blanket statement. How do you know nobody has an arcade system? huh? Oh and don’t play it off you know exactly why u said it. cause your REALLY mad that non-super nerdo’s just might play xbox360 too. The part that gets me after you is you express how you feel about the “gaming world” Why???? No, that NOT what they should have done, they did what they SHOULD have done JUST FINE, by having two disc, cause we can’t afford taking up space on our little 256mb saving junk like Froza or whatever did…..deal with it :shocked:
