Microsoft’s showcase yesterday wasn’t exactly thrilling, letting us know about games we already knew were coming; mostly news about Gears of War 3, Fable III and Halo Reach DLC, a couple of Kinect enabled games and a few 3rd party offerings.

Don’t fret Xbox 360 fans (well, you probably wouldn’t with the cancellation of Guitar Hero)! According to Microsoft that’s just the icing on a very tasty hardcore cake.

Microsoft’s senior global director Kevin Unangst has said that this showcase was just the beginning. “This is just a first-look at what’s coming the rest of this year,” he said.

“The fact that we’re showing off great games like Gunstringer; the first games where we’ve got great developers that know how to make core games with Kinect, and now you’re starting to see the result of that. This is absolutely just the beginning.”

“We also hold some things back for a little event that happens later in the year,” he added, referring to oh, E3, the biggest gaming event on the calendar. Pressed to see if there’d be more first party games coming, he responded with “You should expect we’re going to have some great news at E3.”

Right now, Microsoft’s exclusive core library for 2011 is looking a little meagre; there’s Gears of War 3, Forza 4 and Crytek’s Kingdoms..and very little else. I really hope Microsoft does have more up its sleeve for this year, cos that’s just not gonna cut it.
