MMA banned in Denmark for advertising… Energy Drinks… ?

Okay class let’s take a pop quiz. Of all the evils that gaming contains how many of you would ever have guessed that a game would be banned because it advertised an energy drink?

Well this has just happened in Denmark of all places, a country which is happy to accept it’s citizens virtually chainsawing people in half, running amok in GTA and blowing zombies into little pieces in Left 4 Dead but heaven forbid any of these actions be sponsored by an energy drink… then it has to be banned.

Apparently in Denmark energy is illegal, specifically advertising energy drinks is illegal and EA’s Mixed Martial Art title has just fallen fowl of this little known law.

And seeing as though Rockstar, the drink not the company, is heavily advertised in MMA EA has decided to not release it in Denmark.

According to EA

“We are adhering to laws in Denmark that restrict the use of energy drink product placement in-game, and therefore are not shipping EA Sports MMA in that region.

Our game authentically recreates the sport of MMA in every facet, including energy drink in-game sponsorships on fighter shorts, gear, and in fight venues.”

So that’s that.. pity the Danes who don’t get to play MMA… what a weird law.
