Modern Warfare 2 on PC has a Laughable Multiplayer Limit

PC owning Call of Duty Fans have a had a lot to moan about lately. First the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 was said to be delayed (which turned out to be untrue) and then it was confirmed – and met with much venom – that there would be no dedicated server support.

Well, here’s something new for you to moan about! If you’re still keen on the PC version over its console-bound counterparts because the multiplayer allows for up to 64 player, 32v32 games then you’re in for disappointment.

Infinity Ward has confirmed that the maximum number of players in the game’s multiplayer modes has been significantly reduced -  from a maximum of 64 to a mere 18. According to Infinity Ward the new 9v9 maximum has been put in place as it relates to “the number of players we focused on when we were balancing map size, perks, classes, challenges, etc.”

I really feel that infinity Ward and Activision are segregating the PC COD community with the decisions they’ve made regarding Modern Warfare 2. It’s one of the most eagerly anticipated games of all time, yet they’ve seemingly done nothing but screw over PC gamers. There will likely, as happened with CounterStrike 1.6 and Source, be a divide – with many gamers opting to stick with the first Modern Warfare title for their soldier-killing needs. Many are still threatening boycott, with others opting to obtain the game through more nefarious means.

PC players have regularly pointed and laughed at their console brethren for having gimped versions of games – well I’m afraid that often lauded sense of superiority is over – and you may as well buy a console and get used to using a controller.

    Infinity Ward you fail.

Honestly I would rather download this game and sell it at traffic lights than play it :pirate:. Thanks for ruining what could have been the best PC FPS of the year. Looking forward to BF3.

Stop complaining, you all know you’ll buy it. I’ve seen it over and over, guys complain but still end up buying it because there friends are playing it or they finally watch someone play it, now they want it.

Yea, it doesnt matter how many players can participate in online cod 4 on PC, because the 400ms lag due to the internationally hosted IWnet server will make it unplayable.

From what I’ve gathered, IWnet will run much like Xbox live – you connect to the service but games are hosted peer-to-peer. So if you connect to a local player who’s hosting, your pings should be fine.

I’m pretty sure that that is not the case. I have it on pretty good authority that IWnet will host games internationally, that is why various ISPs have desperately been trying to contact Activision to get some sort of mirror server set up in SA.

I guess we will know for sure next week
