Mortal Kombat 11’s newest character is a force of nature… Literally!

Earth! Wind! Fire! Water! Heart exploded in your ribcage by a stalagmite flung magically across the room with brutal power!… Wait a minute, that’s not right! Yes, it seems that Mortal Kombat 11’s latest character is certainly a whole lot meaner than ol‘ Captain Planet (even the Don Cheadle version). So say hello to Cetrion, your ass-kicking goddess of nature!

Breaking away from all the returning and familiar faces we’ve been seeing in the recent character reveals for NetherRealm Studio’s upcoming fighting game, Cetrion is one of the few brand new playable characters in MK11 alongside the previously announced Geras. The daughter of the game’s time-manipulating baddie Kronika, Cetrion is an Elder God – like Raiden and the like – who can control the four elements of nature to devastating effect.

From what we can see of her gameplay trailer above, Cetrion doesn’t appear to have any lengthy combo strings or huge juggling opportunities with her normals. However, she appears to make up for that by boasting a ridiculous amount of varied special moves, all using various elemental attacks. Some of these give her good zoning capability with projectiles, others act as a defensive buffer, and some are potent close range wake-up/anti-air attacks.

With Mortal Kombat 11’s customizable kustomizable variation system, it’s uncertain just how many of these attacks will be available for you at one time. They don’t appear to be broken down into elemental groupings though as you can clearly see Cetrion using both fire and earth attacks simultaneously.

Her Fatal Blow attack and Fatality also look pretty good visually. The latter, while it does remind us that this is a god we’re dealing with here, maybe goes on a bit too long though. Was it really necessary to crush her enemies in stone, stomp their face in and then still become a giant to fry them with some solar breath? I guess nobody has ever accused nature of being kind.

Mortal Kombat 11 releases on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch on 23 April.

  1. Ok whoa….

There’s an image of her with a huge pillar of light in her mouth (or emanating from her mouth).
The very next sentence refers to a Fatal Blow…

Okay I’m out. I don’t even wanna see that fatality.
