Mortal Kombat 9 to Feature Modelled Guts

The last Mortal Kombat, pitting the series’ stalwarts against characters from DC comic’s stable was T-rated – meaning the game was devoid of the gratuitous, over-the-top violence the series is known for. Mortal Kombat 9 – due next year – won’t be quite as tame.

"We’re going to be as M-rated as we’ve ever been," said series co-creator Ed Boon. "Mortal Kombat is known for and associated with violence, and we’re definitely going back to that," he added. It’ll be violent – and anatomically korrect, too, by the sounds of things.

"The developers are actually modelling the insides of each character, from brains to bowels," he told EGM "When you cut somebody in half, rip their arms off, or otherwise dismember them you will see their realistically rendered insides as they come spilling out of their body." "Eyes are gouged from their sockets, faces are disfigured, and limbs are torn asunder." Sexy!

all the violence in the world won’t make the game more appealing (to anyone over 12) if the fighting system itself isn’t worthwhile. thankfully that too seems to be reworked quite nicely – going back to the basics of Mortal Kombat II’s superior gameplay, and eschewing gimmicks like dial-a-combo’s and weapons seen in later games.

Ahh, now you see this is going to do well, it’s MOOORTAAAL KOOMBAAAAT after all – I didn’t play the last one featuring the DC comic heros but I saw a few videos and it was a damn shame that mortal kombat had been reduced to flat palm slaps and leg-out trips.

I’ve seen some of the fatalities in this game, and they are seriously cringe-worthy (in a – OMG did he just do that – kind of way)

That looks freaking awesome. If they can pull of the magic of the first two Mortal Kombats, I think I might just explode with joy.

I was given MKvsDC for my birthday last year, but it really left me disappointed. I was actually left asking myself, “What the hell is this shit?”. I know, it has Batman in it, but it really wasn’t a good game.
