In case you didn’t know, Final Fantasy XIV was a flop – even game director Naoki Yoshida admitted as much. So, what better solution than to blast the world with meteors and start over?
As Yoshida said
“We took our fanbase for granted,” he says. “We lacked the knowledge of the global standard for MMOs, the knowledge of other titles. We didn’t have the heart, the spirit or the passion to challenge the market.”
But don’t take my criticism of the game – Yoshida more than picks it apart:
So, after a complete reboot, the new Final Fantasy XIV is looking pretty good. It is currently going through beta testing, and will be released later this year. It looks pretty – I’m just not sure that I could ever get behind a Final Fantasy MMO. I’m a HUGE Final Fantasy fan, but I guess I’m a bit of a purist; I want to log hours and hours on quests and grinding and all the typical JRPG madness… by myself!
