A recent TV advert in New Zealand blatantly copied a Sony montage advert featuring Kevin Butler, Sony’s VP of Everything. Instead of ushering in an army of nameless, faceless lawyers, armed with a cease-and-desist order, Butler let the broadcaster know what he’d like as recompense, namely "TV3’s support in making the PS3 the Official Game Console of New Zealand. … That, and a box set of Flight of the Conchords."

Tv3’s complied, sending Butler a gift hamper of the finest New Zealand has to offer. In addition to a plaque declaring the PS3 as the “official console of Aotearoa,” the Maori name of New Zealand, the basket included kiwi treats like Marmite (YUM!) and Milo (DOUBLE YUM!). Oh, and he got that Flight of the Conchords boxset too. Don’t know the Conchords – formerly New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo?

Hit the jump.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
