When the PS3 was announced all we heard about was this 10 year life cycle and how the added power shoved into the PS3 in the beginning would give it legs to continue for much longer than it’s opposition.
Which all sounded true at that point but now we’re 6 years into the Xbox 360’s life cycle and it’s still going strong with Microsoft now also talking about a 10 year life cycle.
However one thing about these consoles is that we’re expecting an overlap between when the next version is released and the current version is halted and some new rumours are now pointing towards a new Xbox being released in late 2013 giving us an expected overlap of around 2 years which sounds pretty solid.
According to CVG a number of Microsoft friendly development houses are prepping their big name titles to be launch titles for the next Xbox and with Lionhead already announcing that Fable 4 will be releasing in 2013 the belief is that is when we’ll see a new Xbox.
Other developers rumoured to be in on the action are Rare, Remedy and Turn 10 which which point to Alan Wake 2, Fable 4 and Forza 5 being launch titles for the new console which is already sounding like a fairly decent launch line up.
Add to that Gears of War: The Pendulum Wars, a prequel to Halo and Saints Row 4 and we’re looking at something to start getting excited about.
So what do you think, are we ready for another console generation or would you prefer to ride out this current gen for a couple more years?
PS: I’m trying to avoid using the phrase next-gen like the plague
