Nintendo Switch local delays

The Nintendo Switch is launching today. Or at the very least it’s meant to be. Locally only two retailers are stocking the device, and it seems for the time being that there are major issues with Takealot’s ability to get them out on time. Several pre-order customers I’ve spoken to and have reached out to us all point towards a change in their orders that took place last night, with delivery being shifted from today to March 7th.

My own order has been affected, and I’ve spent most of the morning attempting to figure out what the issue is. I’ve contacted Takealot directly to try and get some clarity, considering their social account seems to be confirming to clients that the change is an error. If you’re in a main area, you should still expect your Switch today.

That’s a confusing statement, given that most orders affected are either still stuck with a “stock allocated” status, or a dispatch notice that makes it clear stock hasn’t been handed over to couriers yet. Speaking with Takealot directly, they reiterated that this launch has been prepared and planned for, and that customers who are in main areas should not be affected. The date change, according to them, is puzzling, and they’re looking into it.

We have prioritised this really important Nintendo Switch launch with our whole team – from Warehouse and Delivery to Customer Service – and all our delivery teams are prepped to release the Switch consoles and accessories from our Warehouses today, the official global launch day.

I’ve followed up to check what this really means given that the day continues, and the fact that couriers have yet to seemingly start making their rounds for delivery. It seems impossible that stock will still arrive today, which is horrible form given that Takealot is one of two retailers even given access to sell it yet. We’ll be updating this as soon as I hear more.

[UPDATE] Thus far, this is the latest I’ve received:

You can assure our Nintendo Switch fans that the delivers are on their way.

To the best of our knowledge right now, it looks like the Order Tracking date change was a technical glitch – that’s what we’re currently seeing on our side and we’re busy investigating why.

We’ve had confirmation from both our Joburg and Cape Town warehouses that the Nintendo Switch deliveries are on track and our for delivery as we speak.

[2nd UPDATE] We heard from Takealot again and they are promising that it is a tracking issue. Even though we might see a 7th estimated delivery date, they assure us that the deliveries have shipped and are currently out for delivery.

They should have gone with the Kalahari name instead of TakeAlot after the merger.

For me part of the joy is walking into a store and physically buying it. So I will have to wait a while until shops have that purdy Neon blue and red console on the shelves.

All good, will only pick this up when the price drops / better bundles become available.
