Obsidian drops some New Vegas tips

Fallout: New Vegas came out last week Friday in South Africa. Anybody else slogging their way through it in Hardcore mode? Man, it seems I get my ass handed to me by Radscorpions every other day.

Well, the guys from Obsidian have been kind enough to pass on some tips and secrets to help you get a bit of a head start if you’re brave stupid enough to try your hand in Hardcore mode. These are definitely some “pro-tips” seeing as how, you know, these guys actually made the game.

“Very specifically if you’re playing in Hardcore Mode in New Vegas restrain your violent instincts and do not kill Dr. Mitchell in Goodsprings. He’s the very first doctor that you’ll meet but as you’ll quickly discover he’s one of the few resources on the left side of the map that we be able to heal crippled limbs and heal radiation for you.

“So if you’re running around in Hardcore mode and think ‘oh it’ll be really fun to kill Dr. Mitchell’ you will be in for a world of hurt after that point, because finding ways to cure those conditions in Hardcore is not as easy as you would expect. Keep him intact because not only can those small town doctors bring you back from the dead but they can keep your arse alive in Hardcore Mode.”

“Even if you think you’re a gun-toting badass when leaving Goodsprings, I wouldn’t test your badass-ary by running north immediately to wrestle Deathclaws to the ground.”

“There is an area called Quarry Junction north of Goodsprings that has a number of warning signs – those are not for show. The creatures you encounter beyond that point are absolutely brutal and ruthless. If you can kick their ass, more power to you – that was not my experience.”
“If you’ve read the graphic novel that comes with the Collector’s Edition it tells the story of the guys who come to kill you at the start of the game. The interesting thing about that is there’s actually a grave site of one of the main characters from the graphic novel a little bit north of Goodsprings.

“If you don’t run too far north and you try to follow the path that they took to get to you, you’ll encounter the grave site. If you take a shovel to it and dig it up you’ll find one of the signature weapons that one of the guys in the graphic novel was carrying.”

So there you are! As soon as I get home from work, I’m finding a shovel and a grave with a special weapon in it. That’ll teach those stupid Radscorpion bastards.

already put in close on 50 hours game time. Absolutely loving it, but I hope they come out with the patches soon. The bugged quests and companions that just “disapear” are really starting to piss me off :/

The first patch for PS3 and XBOX have been released, and I believe 2 patches for PC have been released to date. So if you haven’t patched yet, do it.
