Man, we have been showing you a lot of PC porn lately. Of course the biggest and best was the Large Pixel Collider. Then Darryn showed off the 8pack Supernova. But this is just stupid.
Watch this video to see what happens when you RAID 24 SSDs.
You can open a lot of, um, media very quickly that way. It’s very cool, but there’s also a whole bunch wrong in this video. First of all, VISTA!? Are they actually using MS Vista? Then we get to see them defragging those SSDs. Do they not know anything about what they’re doing?
Still, I love seeing the insanity coming out of PC builds lately. It’s far too much fun to see what is possible with a large enough budget and imagination. Certainly makes my technology look very sad and old, though. Big thanks to Erwinnnnnnnnnnnnnn for the link!

SSHD is much better bang for buck bud and only marginally slower. That said, I installed my SSD over a year ago and it really is amazing.

Got my R9 290 last night. Next step is an SSD. And to think I nearly spent my money on a PS4, silly Nathan! Silly!

Your loss man! your SSD will be out of date soon and The peasants with their Ps4’s will be playing games in the near future you wish you had… Think about it… You really not making a smart move..

December 4, 2013 at 15:38
Most of the games I would get for PS4 are getting PC versions too. And my card supports Mantle API which is a bonus. Destiny is pretty much the only game at the moment I wish I had a console for

How the hell will SSD be be “out of date soon”
That’s like saying “your petrol car will be out of date soon”
Genugtig sometimes I think your mouth works 15 steps ahead of your brain
TiMsTeR1033
December 4, 2013 at 15:59
NO! not Genugtig! Pcs are upgrading all the time… There will always be something better, never meant SSD will be out of date, just whatever SSD harddrive he gets will be soon enough.
Admiral Chief of Souls
December 4, 2013 at 16:02
Something better yes, but never out of date.
See you console peasants think that if you don’t upgrade your PC every 6 months it becomes a brick that must be thrown away or upgraded.
This. Is. Not. True.
If using this analogy then the PS4 is already a year or so behind.

Get one, just get one if you can afford it. Everything is so snappy. edit: You have a 290 and no SSD? Thats quite strange actually.

I stopped watching when he started defragging a SSD. So much money but so little brains … his got 24 ssd’s but doesnt even know the basics about the technology or how to operate them properly.
Its still freakin cool though I was hoping they will mod the case so that all the drives fits in nicely.

Hey I am pretty chilled as a techy I cringe at stuff like that even if its for the lulz :).
Like I said its very cool though and its nice to see the performance.

December 4, 2013 at 16:00
Its quite insane though, wish we had that level of performance everywhere!

December 4, 2013 at 16:03
Wish I could get the SSDs approved in my EMC VNX, then NOBODY would moan about “SAP being slow”
Johan du Preez
December 4, 2013 at 16:07
Yeh im still wary of SSD’s in servers due to the shorter life span. It will run insanely fast though and resolve a crap load of io problems. I think it should work fine with anything except a DB server cause of the constant read and writes from databases.
I have been keeping an eye on the hybrids though but not really convinced yet.
Admiral Chief of Souls
December 4, 2013 at 16:23
Same here (btw talking about those fancy EFDs)
Johan du Preez
December 4, 2013 at 17:28
That is quite interesting I didn’t know of EFD drives. It looks like it could be the solution but it seems there is no set standards or a body that regulates it, hopefully they can sort that out soon.

December 5, 2013 at 09:04
It can be fast, if your network technicians and the hardware is up to decent spec. But to what does the IT guy know??? And of course, the techy must not be “slow” either and have a proper budget and have the SAP server dedicated to SAP only…., But I can go on and on and on, on the basic mistakes made by these “experts”…

I’ll only get an SSD once it costs R1000 for 1Tb of SSD storage.
