Nintendo, the firm that isn’t the least bit shy of throwing everything including the kitchen sink at pirates have shocked us all by admitting that poor game sales cannot simply be put down to piracy.
According to Nintendo’s CEO, Satoru Iwata
“I do not think we should attribute bad software sales solely to piracyâ€
He then goes on to state
“Even with piracy, as long as we can create products which can attract attention from many consumers and which can greatly entertain them, that software can make it to the number one position of the hit software sales chart.
So, we would like to consider it from both perspectives simultaneously. It is true there is always the influence of piracy, but it is important for us to increase the number of our consumers who are willing to shell out their money to purchase our products.â€
It’s heartening to know that Nintendo still realise that no matter how evil and troublesome piracy is that nothing actually beats quality titles.
The fact is, according to my warped logic, that pirates won’t buy a game no matter how cheap or good it is. They have some weird inbuilt belief that it’s okay to steal the games because hey Nintendo’s got enough money anyway so it won’t matter.
Or it’s just the fact that their parents never embedded a decent morality system into them and now they are the pariahs of society, either way there isn’t much Nintendo can do about it now apart from continuing to create great games and chasing the pirates down by any means necessary.
Nintendo are planning on ramping up the anti-piracy protection on the 3DS which helps to increase the cost of the device so thank your local pirate for that one… I give the new measures 30 days at most though.
PS: If it was missed we don’t support piracy of any kind at Lazygamer… we do however support naked ninja’s (NSFW)
